10 Usage Tips · Claude for Small Business Owners

Get more out of your Claude.

Ten practical tips for stretching your Claude plan further — the same tips we teach every Imaginary AI client during onboarding.

Why these tips matter

What is a Business Command Center?

A Business Command Center — your BCC — is a complete operating system for your business, built around your own Claude. It connects Claude directly to your private database, your QuickBooks, your Google apps, and your automations. Everything works together. Everything updates itself. Everything stays yours.

Your data, your database

Your books, customers, tasks, and memory live in your own Supabase — not locked inside a SaaS vendor's cloud. You could fire us tomorrow and still own the running system.

Your AI knows you

Generic AI tools start every conversation cold. Your Claude starts every conversation with your full business context loaded — your entities, financials, tax profile, goals, and recent decisions.

One Claude, every domain

Strategy, financials, tax prep, content, hiring, troubleshooting — one Claude handles all of it, with the same complete picture of your business loaded every time.

The 10 Tips

Ten ways to stretch your Claude plan.

Claude usage limits are real — and they tighten between 8 AM and 2 PM Eastern on weekdays, when Anthropic compresses capacity across the platform. These ten tips will keep you working all day instead of hitting a wall by lunch.

TIP 1 OF 10

Start new conversations often.

This is the single most impactful tip. Every message in a long thread re-processes the entire history. By message 20, each message costs roughly 20× what message 1 cost. Switching topics? Start fresh. Past 10 messages? Start fresh. Your business context is already saved — your Claude remembers what it needs.

TIP 2 OF 10

Use the right model for the task.

You wouldn't drive a sports car to pick up groceries. Haiku = daily driver (quick questions, lookups). Sonnet = SUV (drafting, analysis, daily work). Opus = sports car (deep analysis, complex strategy). Opus uses roughly 5× more of your limit than Haiku.

TIP 3 OF 10

Be specific in your first message.

Vague prompts lead to back-and-forth that burns messages. Instead of "help me with marketing," try: "Write 3 LinkedIn posts announcing my new service line — friendly-professional tone, clear call-to-action, one-line P.S. at the end." One precise message beats five vague ones.

TIP 4 OF 10

Tell Claude the format you want.

Add format instructions upfront: "Keep it under 200 words." Or "Give me a numbered list, max 5 items." Or "Just the answer — no explanation." When Claude doesn't have to guess, it gets it right on the first try.

TIP 5 OF 10

Always work inside your BCC Project.

Your BCC Project already knows your business — your entities, team, financials, tax profile, goals. Always start conversations from your Project (not the main Claude screen). You won't re-explain context, you'll save messages, and you'll get better answers.

TIP 6 OF 10

Schedule heavy work off-peak.

Claude shows a usage meter — keep an eye on it. Limits tighten between 8 AM and 2 PM Eastern on weekdays. Save your big tasks — financial reviews, content batches, strategic planning — for before 8 AM, after 2 PM, or weekends. Your same plan stretches dramatically further off-peak.

TIP 7 OF 10

The Summary Handoff technique.

For long working sessions: after 8–10 messages, ask Claude to summarize all decisions and next steps. Copy the summary. Start a new conversation. Paste it as your opener. You reset your message cost to zero while keeping every bit of progress.

TIP 8 OF 10

Manage your connectors.

Every connected tool — Drive, Gmail, Calendar, QuickBooks — loads into every conversation, even when you're not using it. Click + → Connectors → Tool Access and turn off the ones you don't need right now. Re-enable them on the next chat.

TIP 9 OF 10

Upload files, don't paste them.

Don't paste a 50-page document into chat. Use the attachment button (paperclip icon). Better yet — add the document to your Project's Knowledge files so Claude can reference it across every conversation without re-uploading.

TIP 10 OF 10

Log session at the end.

When you finish a working session, just say "log session." Claude writes a structured summary into your memory — decisions made, action items, what changed. Next time you open Claude, your full history is loaded automatically. This single habit is what makes your BCC compound over time instead of starting from zero every day.

Peak hours, in one line.

Limits tighten 8 AM – 2 PM Eastern, Monday through Friday. Same plan, more capacity outside those hours. Save the big tasks for early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Want a Claude that knows your business?

These tips work for any Claude user. But a Business Command Center turns Claude into something different — an AI partner that knows your entities, your customers, your books, your team, your tax profile, and your goals. We build it. You own it. Your Claude takes over from there.
